Christy is one of the founding members of Carolina Legacy Volleyball Club and serves as the Director of Volleyball Operations for the organization. Christy brings over 20 years of coaching and leadership experience to Carolina Legacy. She was most recently the Director of Volleyball for Carolina Explosion. Prior to Carolina Explosion, Christy was a Director with Jammers Volleyball Club overseeing the operations of the South Granville satellite program for 5 years.
A native of Northeast Ohio, Christy began coaching volleyball in 1991 at the age of 20. She was introduced to club volleyball when she moved to the Chicago-Metro area in 1995 (Bottom Line Volleyball, Aurora IL) and was named the Head Volleyball Coach for Mooseheart High School (Batavia, IL). While at Mooseheart, Christy led her team to a 3rd place finish in the Indian Trail Conference and their first invitation to the state playoffs in school history. After taking time off to raise her busy sons, Christy re-entered the coaching world in 2012 when her family relocated to Granville County, NC. She was the Head Coach at South Granville from 2013-2016, earning 4 conference titles, 4 conference tournament titles, was the 2014 2A NCHSAA Volleyball State Runner-Up, the 2015 2A NCHSAA Volleyball State Champion, the 2013 Coach of the Year for the Northern Carolina Conference, and the 2015 Coach of the Year for the State of North Carolina. During this same time, Christy met Michael Hodge, the president and founder of Jammers Volleyball Club. Together they collaborated with the goal to bring a quality club experience to Granville County, and with that vision, Jammers SG was born. Christy ran Jammers SG successfully from 2012-2018. During those 6 years, Christy’s Jammers SG teams had championship finishes at Queen City Classic, Winter Bump, Carolina Region East/West Championships, a top 3 finish at Capitol Hill Classic, and a top 9 finish at Big South Classic National Qualifier. She also ran a beach volleyball program in the summer. Each year, many of her beach players earned bids that qualified them to play in the USAV Beach National Championships. In 2018, Christy was hired as the Director of Volleyball for Carolina Explosion Volleyball, a new club in Wake Forest, NC. In her two years at Carolina Explosion, the club grew from 7 teams to 11 teams. In those 2 seasons, her teams won titles at Carolina Kick-Off, Winter Bump, Queen City, K2 Presidents Day Bash, East/West Championships for the Carolina Region, and a second-place finish at Capitol Hill Classic. As part of Carolina Explosion, she also created and developed a successful beach and youth program that introduced nearly 200 young players to the game of volleyball.
Why I coach: “For me, coaching is about building relationships and being invested in the kids. Volleyball is such a great teacher of life lessons and playing a small part in a player’s journey is a special responsibility for me.” “Oh and winning, winning is nice too.”
Harriett Stevenson-Lewis is a native New Yorker. She moved to North Carolina with her family in 2012 after serving 20 years in the New York City Police Department.
She is an alumna of St. John’s University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. In 1992, she joined the New York City Police Department, earning several awards and recognitions, and retired as a 2nd-grade detective. During her tenure, she successfully completed the Special Operations Specialized Training School and became a member of the NYPD’s Elite Emergency Service Unit. After several years on patrol, she was appointed to the position of Fiscal Officer, overseeing the daily fiscal operations of the NYPD Emergency Service Unit.
As a resident of Wake Forest, she quickly became involved in her community. She presently volunteers with the Wake Forest Dream League and serves as a volunteer board member for the Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry. During her free time, she enjoys singing, running, and spending time with her husband, Dennis, and daughter, Nia.
Shelby Cooper comes to Carolina Legacy Volleyball Club after coaching two seasons with Carolina Explosion. In 2019, she was an assistant coach for CE12 and in 2020 she was the head coach of CE13-Shelby. Shelby also assisted with CE Beach, working with the athletes in the Sand Dollar program, along with helping run various camps and clinics throughout the year.
Shelby was a three-year letterman for Franklin Academy and earned a North Central 1A All-Conference selection her senior year. She played club volleyball for Jammers SG and her senior season with Carolina Explosion. Shelby plays collegiate ball for William Peace University in Raleigh, where she is majoring in Special Education.
Why I coach: “I coach as a way to give back to the sport that has given so much to me. Helping a young player learn a new skill and getting to experience that joy with them is my favorite part of being a coach.”
Coach Ashley is entering into her 9th year of coaching volleyball. Ashley joined Carolina Legacy Volleyball Club after coaching two successful seasons with Carolina Explosion and another four with Jammers Volleyball in Durham. Along with her coaching talents, Ashley brings extensive design experience with her to CLVC as well.
Ashley’s CE12 team was one of the most successful u12 teams in the Carolina Region in 2020. They medaled in 6 of 6 tournaments, including a gold medal win at Winter Bump Classic. They were training to compete for an East/West Championships before COVID-19 cut their season short. Ashley was also a program administrator and coach for CE’s very successful youth league, which averaged 130 players in each the fall and spring seasons. She continues her youth league coordinator role with Carolina Legacy and is excited to see it grow with the new facility.
Ashley has been in love with the game of volleyball for over 20 years. She played for Rosewood High School in Goldsboro, NC and played club for WAVE Volleyball Club. Ashley is a graduate of Meredith College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design.
Why I Coach: “I love getting to pass on the love of the game to a new generation of players. I had very passionate coaches when I played in high school and to this day those are some of my favorite memories. I am so thankful the sport of volleyball has grown so much in the past 15+ years and that I have the opportunity to coach young girls alongside some amazing coaches at CLVC.”
We would like to welcome Jennifer to the coaching staff of Carolina Legacy. She joins us from Carolina Explosion where she was the assistant coach for CE12, a team that placed first or second in all six tournaments they played during the abbreviated 2020 season. Jennifer is also the head coach for Middle School at Thales Academy, Rolesville.
Jennifer's mom was her first coach and introduced her to volleyball at the age 9. She fell in love with the sport and played all through middle and high school. During high school she played club for Carroll Vipers Volleyball in Maryland. To this day she enjoys playing the game any chance she gets.
Why I coach: “The love of the game brings me back to the court. I love watching young players develop their skill set and own love for the game. The players are the reason I coach – helping them be their best is what drives me.
Coach Nicholson brings an extensive list of credentials to the Carolina Legacy Volleyball Club. He has coached collegiate volleyball at Wake Technical College, Newberry College (SC), Union College (KY) and Western Carolina University (NC)
Coach Nicholson has also coached high school and club volleyball.
Coach Nicholson is currently a stay-at-home dad that substitutes for the Wake County School System.
Nicholson has also spent his spare time officiating high school volleyball and basketball games in the western North Carolina area and was selected to officiate the 2002 3A State Championship volleyball match.
A 2005 graduate of Western Carolina, Nicholson received his Master's in Education from Union in December 2006.
Katie Mclamb comes to Carolina Legacy Volleyball Club after apprentice coaching with Carolina Explosion. Katie helped with a variety of indoor camps and clinics, as well as doing some private lessons with the younger girls who needed some extra instruction outside of practice. She also assisted with CE Beach working with athletes in the Sand Dollar program and helping run many camps and clinics in the 2019 season.
Katie is a graduate of Voyager Academy. She was a member of the varisty volleyball team and earned the North Central 1A All-Conference selection her first three years, as well as MVP. She played club volleyball for Jammers SG for 4 seasons, Carolina Explosion sophomore and junior season and Carolina Legacy senior season. Katie will attend Tusculum College in the Fall of 2021 and is committed to play both indoor and beach volleyball with the pioneers on an academic and athletic scholarship.
Why I coach: “I love coaching the younger kids because it gives me the opportunity to watch them develop a real love for the game, which is why I’ve played for so long. It is great to see them finally master a skill and watch their face light up with joy. I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back to the game that has shaped who I am today.”
Asia joins Carolina Legacy coaching staff after spending two seasons with Carolina Explosion and one with Jammers SG. She is a senior at William Peace University majoring in Exercise Science with a minor in coaching. She won a NCHSAA 2A State Volleyball Championship in 2015 while playing at South Granville High School in Creedmoor, NC. Her demeanor as a coach is calm yet competitive. Asia is great at helping those quiet players find their voice and confidence on the court.
Why I coach: “Coaching has made me fall in love with volleyball all over again, from teaching the fundamentals, to building relationships with players, coaching is what I love to do”.
Meagan remembers being in 2nd grade and playing the game of volleyball for the first time and just being in love with the sport from that moment on. Throughout middle and high school she played club volleyball with Triangle Volleyball Club, Franklin County Firecrackers, and finished her club career with Jammers South Granville. Meagan was a four-year letterman at Franklin Academy and was a North Central 1A All-Conference selection her senior year. She was recruited by and played collegiate volleyball at Roanoke College, in Roanoke VA where she was middle hitter/blocker. She played in 25 of 25 matches as a freshman and finished second on the team in kills with 183 and second in blocks with 34.
Meagan feels that she was blessed with good coaches along the way but her passion for coaching comes from her mom who is disciplined, patient, and taught her that good coaching comes from the heart. For the past two years, Meagan has been a coach with Carolina Explosion Volleyball. In those two seasons, she was the Head Coach of two semi-national teams and one regional plus team, as well as the lead clinician of position-specific trainings, camps, and youth leagues. Her coaching highlights include being named as the 2019 Coach of the Year for CE, winning the 2019 Carolina Kickoff, and placing second in the 2019 K2 Presidents Day Bash. Meagan is excited to be a part of Carolina Legacy and looks forward to being a part of growing something special for the young volleyball players of the area.
Why I coach: “I am grateful for the time and lessons my coaches poured into me over my years as a player. I coach in hope of inspiring the next generation of young volleyball players the same way my coaches inspired me.”
Whitney joins the staff of Carolina Legacy Volleyball Club after spending two seasons as an assistant coach for Carolina Explosion. Whitney’s passion for coaching is evident in the relationship, skill, and confidence she builds in her young players. She enjoys the process of taking an athlete through the stages of skill development and the feeling of happiness that comes after her team enjoys a good day on the court.
Whitney is a Jr. right-side/middle blocker for Meredith College. During her freshman season, the Avenging Angels earned an automatic berth to the D3 NCAA tournament by winning the USA South Tournament. She has been an Academic All-Conference selection her first two seasons at Meredith, majoring in Biology and a minoring in Chemistry.
As a high school player, Whitney led her 2016 Louisburg Warriors team to a 27-1 record and a 1A NCHSAA State Runner-Up title. She played her final two seasons of club volleyball for Jammers SG where her teams enjoyed success at the regional and national level.
Why I coach: “I coach because I have a passion for the game and love seeing other athletes succeed in the sport of volleyball. I love having the opportunity to help younger athletes grow as both a volleyball player and a person. The relationships that I have developed and continue to develop through volleyball are irreplaceable. I value my time on the court playing, but there is an unexplainable feeling of happiness that comes from coaching another fellow athlete and witnessing his or her growth.”
Coach Buz brings 15 years of experience as a coach and teacher from all levels of the sport. Prior to arriving at Carolina Legacy, he had coaching stints at Appalachian State, The University of North Florida, Jacksonville Juniors Volleyball Association, Prostyle Volleyball Academy, Triangle Volleyball Club, and Raleigh Volleyball Club. Most recently, Buzogany founded Total Package Volleyball Club where he served as Director and Chairman of the Board.
Originally from the Chicago area, Buz was a successful prep athlete. In club, he played for Side Out Volleyball Club and Rolling Thunder Volleyball Club, qualifying for USAV Nationals with Side Out in 2005 and 2006 resulting in 5th and 8th place finishes respectively. At Buffalo Grove High School, Buz lettered in both soccer and volleyball. In 2006, his high school team ended the season as MSL Conference Champions, Regional Champions, Sectional Champions and a 4th place finish at the State Championship tournament. Buz was named All-Conference and All-Area. His senior year, he led his team to the Sweet-16 and received All-Conference, All-Area and All-State Honors. After graduation, Coach Buz attended Appalachian State University where he studied Physical Education and Health. While there, he was the President/Player Coach of the Men’s Club Team as well as the Student Assistant Coach for the Women’s Varsity Volleyball Team. During his time as Student Assistant Coach, the team went from the bottom of the conference to appearing in the Conference Semi-Final match his senior year. Working primarily with Middles and Blockers, Buz helped the team end the 2009 season ranked #13 nationally in blocks per set. In 2010, Coach Buz was honored with the American Volleyball Coaches Association Coaches4Coaches Scholarship Award for Outstanding Up-and-Coming Coaches. After graduating from ASU, Buzogany accepted a position as Assistant Volleyball Coach, Director of Sand Volleyball Operations, and Camp Director at the University of North Florida. His time as coach there was the most successful in program history, with the team reaching the Conference Championship in 2012 and breaking multiple individual and team records. On the sand, the team won the Conference Championship and was invited to participate in the NCAA National Championship Tournament. After stepping away from college coaching, Buz moved to Tallahassee to become the Director of Training at Prostyle Volleyball Academy, taking teams to USAV Nationals in 2015 and 2016. In 2017, Coach Buz and his wife, Paige, moved to Raleigh. In 2019, he graduated with his Master’s Degree in Sports Management from Georgia Southern University. Buzogany is currently Varsity Head Coach at Knightdale High School.
Why I coach: “While I love coaching the skills of the game, my passion is teaching the mental side of volleyball. Things like strategy, vision, mindset, drive, humility, and teamwork are the most important aspects of success in volleyball and the skills that translate directly into being a more successful human being.”
Anna joins Carolina Legacy Volleyball after spending two seasons as the Director of Coaching for Carolina Explosion. During that time, she was the head coach for CE16 and CE15, while also being the club's setter coach. Her 2019 CE16 team were the D1 Regional Championship runner up for the Carolina Region and the champions of the Carolina Kick Off. Anna also coached for Jammers SG and spent 4 seasons coaching at NC Elite. During her time at Jammers, she was named Impact Coach of the Year for 2018.
Anna has been in love with the sport of volleyball for over 13 years. She played at Person High School where she won a NCHSAA 4A State Championship. She also played beach and club volleyball throughout her high school career. After high school, she played at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC for four seasons, where she earned her BS in Exercise and Sports Science. Anna is now in her fifth year of teaching PE and is currently a K-5 PE teacher and Varsity Head Coach at Vance Charter School in Henderson. Anna continues to play beach volleyball and ran her first full marathon in 2018.
Why I coach: “I coach to be a positive influence in the lives of young athletes, while guiding them to reach their goals. I coach to grow players in their physical skills, volleyball IQ, and mental toughness. I coach for the love of the game.”
